Ken was elected as a Councillor for Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council in 1984. He Chaired the Social Services Committee in the early 1990s and has always been involved in Children’s Social Care and Education.
Having spent 10 years as Leader of the Council, he is now Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills and also serves on the Local Children’s Safeguarding Partnership Board and as Vice Chair of the Remuneration Committee.
He was a founding board member of the Greater Birmingham LEP, chaired Solihull’s Health and Wellbeing Board and served on the Birmingham and Solihull Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) Board. He has also acted as Vice Chair of the West Midlands Combined Authority Wellbeing Board.
Nationally, Ken has served on a number of Local Government Association Boards, including Children and Young People, Local Government Workforce and People and Places. He has also been the elected representative of Metropolitan Councils on the Conservative Councillors Association.
Ken has been an NHS Non-executive Director and remains a Lay Hospital Manager under the Mental Health Act, dealing with appeals, patients’ rights and procedural compliance.
