Veena Allison
Personal profile
Veena is an Employment law / HR professional, with over 25 years' experience in this field, having represented and supported employing organisations in public, private and charitable sectors, in relation to the whole employment life cycle, from advising on recruitment procedures, managing absence and performance issues, investigating disciplinary and grievance allegations, to chairing hearings and advising on disputes.
In addition to her Employment law & HR consultancy, Veena also runs a management training and development company. Veena is known for delivering engaging, jargon-free training workshops with the aim of equipping managers with key knowledge and skills, to limit the risk of disputes. However, Veena is conscious of the fact that it is not enough for managers to merely learn how to be legally compliant; it is equally important for leaders at all levels to understand how people tick, in order to get the best out of their teams. With her qualifications in law and applied positive psychology, Veena works closely with leaders to help build management and interpersonal skills and ultimately a greater understanding of how to maximise employee engagement and performance.
Veena has particular expertise in conducting complex workplace investigations, as well as training managers in how to conduct robust and effective in-house investigations. This is an area that often causes difficulties for public sector employers and Veena has worked with Fire Services, local authorities, health organisations, housing associations, charities and schools to help address this challenge, by helping to build resilient in-house investigation teams.
Veena is passionate about the need for embedding Equality, Diversity & Inclusion at all levels, without alienating or blaming, and has successfully designed and delivered organisation wide training in this from senior leadership teams through to middle management and wider staff groups, with the ultimate aim of ensuring psychologically safe, respectful and effective workplaces.
