Who We Are

Gloucestershire Constabulary

Gloucestershire Constabulary recognises that coaching and mentoring assists in developing individuals, enabling them to reach their full potential.

Gloucestershire Constabulary is committed to developing and investing in its people, as part of the Supportive Leadership & Wellbeing Basecamp, Coaching will assist in embedding supportive leadership behaviours and develop our supportive leadership culture.

The Supportive Leadership and Wellbeing Coaching and Mentoring Programme aims to provide access to high quality effective coaching and mentoring to all in Gloucestershire Constabulary.

We have joined the Public Sector Coaching & Mentoring Pool which will allow access to external coaches and mentors from over 30 public sector organisations. In addition we have our internal provision with a wide range of coaches and mentors from across the organisation. Individuals can choose a coach or mentor from within Gloucestershire Constabulary or an external one depending whether the achievement of their learning outcomes would best be supported by having a coach or mentor with an understanding of our organisation or if an external perspective would be helpful.

Would could benefit?

A coach will help you through raising awareness; looking at different perspectives to enable you to think things through in ways you couldn’t do on your own and a mentor does this through sharing their experience and expertise. It could be an hour of focussed discussion, or over a number of short sessions. If you have something you want to accomplish at work consider working with a coach or mentor to help you get there.

  • Coaching is prioritised for individuals who:
  •  Are attending the Supportive Leadership and Wellbeing Programme
  • Who have taken on new leadership responsibilities or a different role
  • Who are adapting to change and seeking to optimise their opportunities
  • Who are joining the organisation in a leadership role
  • Who are returning from a period of long-term leave (i.e. sickness, maternity, career break)
  • Who are looking to develop their skills in change management, communication style, relationships with colleagues and building staffe morale
  • Who are seeking to work on resilience techniques to help themselves and others thrive not just survive the challenges facing them
Mentoring from the pool involves working 1 to 1 with someone who has skills or experience you want to develop yourself in, such as gaining:

  • practical advice or to deepen your technical knowledge
  • understanding of how a service area or orgniasation works
  • knowledge about how to work strategically or politically to get the job done
  • a way to develop your networks
If you are looking for some development from someone with credibility and experience to support your professional development, then mentoring may be right for you.
