Networking

Political change and uncertainty are creating a growing need for leaders who can read the wider landscape, build strong relationships with elected members and make confident decisions in complex environments. Political awareness and astuteness are increasingly important leadership capabilities for those seeking to maintain organisational focus while navigating change.

We will be joined by Grace Williams, WME Associate, former Leader of Waltham Forest Council and Associate Coach for SOLACE, for an interactive session exploring:

Navigating Politics – Leading Through Change and Uncertainty

Political change and uncertainty are creating new challenges for senior leaders across local government. Leaders need to navigate a complex mix of political stakeholders, diverse priorities and competing demands, while keeping their organisations focused and their teams supported.

Drawing on more than 25 years of experience in local and central government, including her time as a council leader, Grace will share practical insights into navigating politics with confidence, building trusted relationships with politicians and leading effectively through periods of change.

During the session, we'll explore:

  • Understanding the political picture and its implications for local government.
  • Developing political astuteness and awareness.
  • Building trusted and constructive relationships with politicians.
  • Leading strategically through change and uncertainty.
  • Supporting staff and organisational values through political transitions.

By the end of the session, you'll have:

  • A stronger understanding of how to read and navigate the political landscape.
  • Practical approaches for developing political awareness and building effective relationships with elected members.
  • Ideas for maintaining organisational focus and supporting teams through political change.

This interactive session will bring together colleagues from across the region to learn, reflect and share experiences, with plenty of opportunity to explore the practical realities of navigating politics in local government.
